Creative Workers In Schools
John is a skilled public communicator, teacher and mentor with extensive experience across the country delivering workshops for secondary schools, training and up-skilling Drama teachers as well as teaching at major Drama schools across Australia and internationally. He was most recently Creative Workers in Schools resident at Lara Secondary College, devising and creating a production of ‘Tales From Outer Suburbia’ with students Year 7-12 supported by Creative Victoria through Regional Arts Victoria.
From this project emerged a bespoke programme for Secondary schools around Victoria - providing a flexible template replicating the model of the Creative Workers in Schools - this included staff skills development, creative mentoring and larger production development. Alongside this, a flexible 1-3 workshop on ‘A Creative Life’ can be delivered to the entire school, not just the creative subjects or staff - please get in touch to discuss booking a class, workshop or larger residency.
John has delivered workshops and tutored in Shakespeare, Shakespeare & Adaptation, Directing, Acting, Playwriting, Australian Drama, Theatre Reviewing, Theatre History, Devising, Theatre Studies and Drama as well as tutored senior Drama and English students for major projects, productions, design and script analysis.
His professional and community theatre workshops can be re-purposed for any occasion or need and have been delivered to; Lara Secondary College, Braemar College, Newington College, NIDA Open, Theatre Works, Footscray Community Arts Centre, Hothouse Theatre, Write Around The Murray, Monash Uni Shakespeare Society, Young Vic’s Genesis Programme, National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, Blue Cow Theatre and ATYP.
University drama school teaching includes; Royal Central School of Speech & Drama (RCSSD), London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA), Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), Monash University, the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA), Trinity College Melbourne and the University of Sydney’s Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme.
